Suspected murderer to be tried in Zagreb

Zeljko Milovanovic, accused of setting up an explosive device that killed Croat journalist Ivo Pukanic and his associate Niko Franic, will be tried in Zagreb. Milovanovic, a former member of the so-called Red Berets (JSO), is in custody in Belgrade, awaiting trial. Suspected murderer to be tried in Zagreb The court denied his appeal and request to “freeze” the criminal proceedings against him before the Zagreb District Court in order to be tried in Belgrade only, where he was arrested last May. The court concluded that all legal conditions were present for the trial to be held in Zagreb, where the Office for Prevention of Corruption and Organized Crime (USKOK) in October 2009 charged him and another five suspects with murder and creating a criminal organization that killed Pukanic and Franic. After the court’s decision, there are no more obstacles for the beginning of the murder trial which is scheduled for February 3, Radio Free Europe has reported.
