President Boris Tadic and several other state officials will appear in court on December 1, reports said. They are facing "misconduct charges" over an incident regarding the consumption of alcohol at a football match. Tadic to appear in court over ”champagne incident” “Everyone has received summons for December 1,” said Belgrade City Court President Zoran Pasalic, in charge of misdemeanor cases. He added it was the Serbian police (MUP) who filed the complaint. Tadic, Serbian Football Association President Tomislav Karadzic, Youth and Sports Minister Snezana Samardzic-Markovic, and Belgrade Assembly Speaker Aleksandar Antic were at the stadium when they toasted with champagne after the 5:0 victory of the Serbian national squad team over Romania on October 11. The victory qualified the Serbian team directly for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. But the Law on Prevention of Violence and Inappropriate Behavior at Sporting Events, prohibits distribution and consumption alcohol within a kilometer of a sports venue. Tadic and Samardzic-Markovic stated earlier that they would pay the fine if they were found guilty of this infringement.
