General’s temporary release extended to July 15

The Hague Tribunal has extended retired General Vladimir Lazarević’s temporary release term to July 15, according to a statement from the court.

The Hague Tribunal has extended retired General Vladimir Lazarevic’s temporary release term to July 15, according to a statement from the court. Lazarevic was granted temporary release after an operation on May 25, and had been due to return to custody today. General’s temporary release extended to July 15 The Tribunal Appeals Chamber, however, adopted an emergency motion submitted by the defense to extend Lazarevic’s stay in Nis in order to “finish his therapy and stop his general health from deteriorating.” Lazarevic was sentenced in February to 15 years in prison for war crimes committed against Kosovo Albanians. Information regarding the health of Lazarevic and other inmates is confidential. The documents that were made available to the media show that Lazarevic underwent surgery in The Hague during the trial itself. In the same case, former Yugoslav Army Chief-of-Staff Dragoljub Ojdanic also received a 15-year prison term, while former Deputy Prime Minister Nikola Sainovic, General Nebojsa Pavkovic and Police General Sreten Lukic were sentenced to 22 years behind bars. The defense teams of all the convicted Serbian officials stated that they would appeal the verdicts, as did the prosecution.

Lazarević was sentenced in February to 15 years in prison for war crimes committed against Kosovo Albanians. Information regarding the health of Lazarević and other inmates is confidential.
