The Second District Court in Belgrade remanded the former Serbian vice-consul in New York in custody for 30 days this morning. An investigation has also been launched against Igor Milosevic on suspicion that he issued Miladin Kovacevic, the Serbian student on the run from the U.S. authorities, with temporary travel documents. Vice-consul remanded in custody After interviewing Milosevic, the investigative judge took the decision to conduct an investigation and remand him in custody on suspicion of abuse of office and falsification of official travel documents. The interview began before 23.00 last night, and finished this morning at 03.15. Earlier, disciplinary proceedings were launched against Milosevic by the Foreign Ministry and he was recalled from his position as vice-consul. An international warrant has been issued for Kovacevic’s arrest as the U.S. authorities want him on charges of assaulting fellow student Bryan Steinhauer in a bar in Binghamton, New York state, on May 4 this year. The Serbian student was arrested after the fight and his passport was confiscated to prevent him leaving the U.S., but he was released on bail of USD 100,000, paid by his mother. Upon release from custody, Kovacevic left the U.S. and returned to Serbia using the travel documents illegally issued to him by the Serbian vice-consul.
