Radovan Karadzic wants the Hague Tribunal to take a statement from Richard Holbrooke about an alleged deal struck between them. The former political leader of the Bosnian Serbs, charged by the UN war crimes court and extradited from Serbia recently, wants the former U.S. Balkans envoy to tell the court "under oath" whether he had promised him immunity. Karadzic wants Holbrooke in court Karadzic claims that this was offered in exchange for his withdrawal from Bosnia's public life and political office. Since Holbrooke refuted this on several occasions, Karadzic now believes that shedding the light on the matter is of importance for the continuation of the process and its regularity. Additionally, he has asked the court to arrange a hearing of one of its former chief prosecutors, Richard Goldstone, whose objections allegedly sank an arrangement that would have enabled Karadzic to avoid the Hague trial. Karadzic demands that former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright takes the witness stand, and also former Bosnian Serb and Serbian officials, including Aleksa Buha, Vladislav Jovanovic, Zivadin Jovanovic and Vladimir Nadezdin, all of whom, according to him, knew of the Holbrooke deal. Karadzic has also asked the Special Court in Belgrade to send him the report on an investigation led last year in connection to the alleged agreement.
