Justice Ministry informed of Subotić case

The National Interpol Bureau in Belgrade has informed the Justice Ministry that Stanko Subotic was released from extraditional custody in Moscow on June 26. It was stated that Subotic had been released because the case in question had expired according to Russian law, the Justice Ministry stated. Justice Ministry informed of Subotic case However, since the case has not expired according to Serbian law, the international indictment against Subotic remains valid. The ministry stated that it could not comment on why the Russian institutions had decided to release Subotic, since they had not even yet received the decision sent by the Russian General Prosecution. The ministry gave guarantees on June 10 that Subotic would only be tried for the crimes for which his extradition was being sought, and that after the trial was finished he would not be extradited to a third country without Russia’s approval. The same statement added that during 1998-1999, investigations had been launched against Subotic for crimes linked to foreign currency dealings, and misusing a position of authority within the industry.

However, since the case has not expired according to Serbian law, the international indictment against Subotić remains valid.
