A Croatian parliamentary commission has decided to allow MP Branimir Glavas to be granted bail, and for his trial to continue. Glavas is accused of atrocities against Serb civilians in Osijek. Glavas released, trial to continue A majority of five members of the Mandate-Immunity Commission opposed the move, while four were in favor, though they were all agreed that the trial should continue. The Commission discussed a proposal to remand the MP in custody and continue his trial. Parliamentary officials have to uphold the Commission’s ruling in a vote. Glavas was yesterday released from custody having acquired political status and immunity, and despite his wish to go to parliament, immediately upon his release he was transferred from the prison hospital to Osijek infirmary. The State Public Prosecution has announced that it will appeal against the decision, while yesterday, a motion was brought for Glavas’s immunity to be revoked so that he could be returned to custody to allow his trial to continue.
