The provincial administration in Novi Sad will participate in the renovation of the Sarvar death camp site. Vojvodina Executive Council took the decision at a session Wednesday. Vojvodina to fund death camp memorial in Hungary The cemetery in Sarvar, a town in the west of Hungary, is also a memorial for the WW2 victims who perished in a death camp there. The protocol of cooperation will be signed by Executive Council President Bojan Pajtic, while the Ministry of Culture, the Embassy of Slovenia in Hungary, the Slovenian municipality of Lendava, the municipality of Kanjiza and the local government of Sarvar, which is now a tourist resort on the Raba river, will take part in the implementation of the project. The reconstructed memorial will mark in a dignified manner the plight of the internees, most of them Serbs from Backa, Vojvodina. The camp, located in a former artificial silk plant, was opened in April 1941, imprisoning 15,000 civilians, including 1,500 mothers and 4,500 children.
