BELGRADE MP Zaharije Trnavcevic has said that the former General Staff buildings in Belgrade targeted in NATO airstrikes should not be removed in order to build a hotel. The ruins represent "a monument to an unprecedented crime," he said on Tuesday in an open letter. MP warns against selling location to Trump Addressing the Serbian government, Trnavcevic, a veteran journalist and leader of the Rich Serbia (Bogata Srbija) Movement, further said that the authorities had no mandate and support of the citizens "to subserviently offer this attractive location to Mr. Donald Trump to build a super-class hotel." "This request and a warning is based on the mass support of Belgraders, who have been signing a petition in the streets of the capital in order to preserve the memory of the innocent victims and of the severe destruction that North Atlantic Alliance committed without the approval of the UN Security Council," said Trnavcevic, in reference to the 1999 war. According to him, Trump wants to build a hotel on the site "because he has the support and an order from NATO to remove this mark of a still unpunished crime." "The only punishment for the criminals is the victim's living, eternal memory of their wrongdoing," wrote Trnavcevic. The letter came after Prime Minister Ivica Dacic met on Monday in Belgrade with representatives of the Trump Organization, which is said to be interested in building an exclusive hotel in Belgrade, and will to this end considering several locations, including the former General Staff HQ.
