Serbia's Energy Minister Petar Skundric and Spanish Ambassador to Serbia Inigo de Palacio Espana signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on Monday. The memorandum concerns cooperation between the Serbian ministry and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation, which involves about EUR 220,000 of investments. Energy ministry, Spanish agency sign MoU Skundric told reporters in Belgrade yesterday that the MoU referred to a project meant to improve the exploitation and promotion of solar energy in Serbia, which involves analyzing solar technologies, creating a framework of standards and regulations and conducting pilot projects in that field. The memorandum will help to further improve the friendly relations between Serbia and Spain, a country which is helping Serbia's accession into the EU both politically and financially, Skundric remarked. Espana stressed that Spain had resolved to assist Serbia on its path towards the EU, as well as in the process of undergoing the necessary political, economic and social change. The EU expects its members, membership candidates and potential candidates to be clearly oriented towards renewable energy sources and sustainable development models, Espana stated.
