Srbijagas and Austrian HEAT have signed a EUR 5.5mn contract for the construction of a production line at the Banatski Dvor underground gas storage facility. Srbijagas CEO Dusan Bajatovic said after signing the agreement that construction of the new production line would begin on April 13, and that the work would be financed from the Srbijagas budget. Banatski Dvor deal signed with Austrians “The deadline for finishing the work is 233 days. After that, Banatski Dvor will be able to produce five million cubic meters of gas per day,” Bajatovic said. He explained that the capacity of the facility would be 300 million cubic meters next season, the equivalent of 60 days’ supply in the event of another gas crisis akin to the one that hit in January. “I hope that this will not be the only storage facility in Serbia, because the European Union’s recommendations and needs for secure distribution will require us to think about building more capacities like this,” Bajatovic said. “In the course of this year, we will draft a proposal with the energy minister and the government for maybe building another storage facility in the next few years, in order to ensure that Serbia has a supply of gas that will be at the level of a six-month reserve,” the CEO explained. He would not be drawn on the details of possible locations. Bajatovic said that Serbia had a total storage capacity of between five and seven billion cubic meters of gas. HEAT owner Wilhelm Huber said that the company would try to meet all the deadlines for constructing the facility’s production line. Dusan Bajatovic (FoNet, archive)
