Delta CEO Miroslav Miskovic says that businesses in Serbia expect the government to stabilize the exchange rate and increase banks’ loan capacity. Miskovic said that currency stability was important to large companies that had a hard time doing business with the constant 1-2 percent daily fluctuations of the dinar. Miskovic said that Delta had been working in all other countries in the region very well with a stable exchange rate, but not in Serbia. Delta’s view is that Serbia could increase exports with a greater placement of agricultural and food products on foreign markets, adding that the focus should be on increased exports to Russia and other CEFTA countries. “Despite all the hardships, the Serbian economy has started 2009 successfully, and the results for 2008, according to some early indicators, can serve as an example in the region,” Miskovic said.
