Unions ready to compromise

President of the Serbian Independent Union Ljubisav Orbovic says that he expects to sign a general collective agreement with the state. He told B92 that there would be a meeting with government officials tomorrow. Orbovic said that it would be possible to postpone the implementation of some aspects of the collective agreement for six months because of the current word financial crisis. Unions ready to compromise However, he said that worker unions would continue to demand subsidies for warm meals and regress immediately. “We’re only backing down temporarily; we are giving it a gap of six months. We are making room for this new situation whose impact on Serbia not even the president or prime minister can predict, and it simply is not possible to pay for everything at this moment in time,” the union leader said. However, he warned that if an agreement was not reached, the unions would take to the streets.
