The prime minister thanked the EU for allocating the funds not only for the construction of new and reconstruction of damaged houses, but also for the assistance it provided for farmers, materials and household appliances.

“We were faced with catastrophic floods,” Vučić said, adding that we have managed to solve the greatest part of the problem in difficult circumstances.

Asked by reporters whether the construction of houses could have been launched earlier, Vučić said that this was impossible because the procedures have to be followed, stressing that the state is pushing for the greatest possible transparency.

The prime minister noted that the damage is believed to total EUR 1.7 billion, adding that so far the state has earmarked EUR 50 million for the repair works and that it will allocate more.

Davenport said that the EU has provided EUR 620,000 to help families in Jamena so that a total of 35 families could get either reconstructed or new houses.

The EU has so far allocated EUR 60,000 for vulnerable agricultural households in this village.
