Iran: "You can transit the Strait of Hormuz — under one condition"
The Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations has stated that ships that are not hostile can pass through the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian agency Tasnim reports today.
“Ships that are not hostile, including those belonging to or associated with other states, may benefit from safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz in coordination with the relevant Iranian authorities, provided that they do not engage in acts of aggression against Iran or support them, and fully comply with the announced safety regulations,” the statement said, published on the official account of Iran’s mission on X (formerly Twitter).
On Tuesday, according to the Financial Times, citing a letter allegedly sent to all member states of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Iranian authorities informed IMO member countries that “non-hostile vessels” can freely transit the Strait of Hormuz, in coordination with Iranian authorities.
The letter states that Tehran has “taken necessary and proportional measures to prevent aggressors and their accomplices from exploiting the Strait of Hormuz to continue hostile operations against Iran.”
