"Americans fleeing Iran; 'Go to a safe location'"
The United States Embassy in Tehran this morning urged American citizens to leave Iran. In a post on its website, the Embassy advised citizens to make an evacuation plan that does not rely on the U.S. government.
The Embassy advised citizens who cannot leave Iran to go to a "safe location," reported Al Jazeera.
American citizens were also advised to stock up on food, water, and medicine, and to follow local media.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi called today for "mutual respect" ahead of talks with the U.S. on Iran's nuclear program and other issues.
On X (formerly Twitter), Araghchi wrote that Iran approaches diplomacy with "open eyes" and mindful of the past year, emphasizing that it engages "in good faith and firmly stands by its rights."
"Obligations must be honored. Equal status, mutual respect, and shared interest are not rhetoric – they are mandatory and the pillars of a lasting agreement," stated the Iranian minister.
Indirect talks between Iran and the U.S. are set to take place today in Oman's capital, Muscat. The U.S. and Iran had previously agreed to hold the talks on Friday in Istanbul, with other Middle Eastern countries participating as observers. However, the Iranian side requested on Tuesday that the talks be moved to Oman and conducted bilaterally, in order to focus solely on nuclear issues, rather than topics such as missile programs, which are priorities for the U.S. and regional countries.
