Trump reveals details: NATO, the "Golden Dome," and minerals
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he reached a framework agreement on Greenland with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, which includes joint work on the “Golden Dome” missile defense system and rights to the island’s mineral resources.
U.S. President Donald Trump said today that the framework agreement on Greenland, which he negotiated with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte in Davos, would involve the United States and European allies working together on the U.S. “Golden Dome” missile defense system and “mineral rights” on Greenland.
“They will be involved in the Golden Dome and will be involved in mineral rights, just like us,” Trump said in an interview with CBS. Asked how long the agreement would last, he replied, “forever.”
Trump reiterated that he abandoned plans to impose punitive tariffs on European countries opposing his Greenland plans because he reached a “framework agreement” regarding the island.
“We have a framework agreement. I think it will be a very good deal for the United States, and also for them. It’s a little complicated, but we’ll explain it later. But the NATO Secretary-General, myself, and a few others have talked,” Trump said.
Earlier, in a post on Truth Social, Trump said that he and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte “formed the framework for a future agreement regarding Greenland” and that he will not implement the tariffs he had announced for certain European countries.
