Tramp: They spit, we hit VIDEO
US President Donald Trump addressed the media, in the moments when he sent the National Guard to the streets of Los Angeles to suppress riots in that city.
The California National Guard has arrived in Los Angeles due to the protest of hundreds of people against immigration raids carried out as part of Trump's hardline policies.
Videos posted on social media showed National Guard members lining up outside a federal building in downtown Los Angeles, where detainees taken in Friday's immigration raids were taken.
On Sunday afternoon local time, there was also a clash between members of the National Guard and demonstrators.
Around the same time, Trump addressed the press.
"We will have troops everywhere, wherever needed. We will not allow this to happen to our country... If we see a danger, we will respond strongly, very strongly. Everything must be subordinated to law and order. We are ready to send whoever we need to ensure that order is respected," said the American president.
"We will monitor the situation - if our people are spat on, if police officers or soldiers are attacked, there will be a response. I told them clearly: no one will spit on our police or our military with impunity. If that happens, the response will be very, very strong," Trump said while addressing reporters.
"They spit, we hit," Trump said.
He added that the government will do everything necessary to restore order: "We will send everything we need to ensure law and order. Last night we watched closely what happened in Los Angeles - there was a lot of violence and it could have been a lot worse."
When asked if he saw the possibility of the protests spreading, Trump replied that he would "watch it very closely."
Commenting on the conflict with California Gov. Gavin Newsom over the decision to send in the National Guard, Trump said he spoke directly to him: "I told him, 'You have to solve it, or I'm sending in the military' - and we did."
