Peak of heatwave in Serbia: "Red" alerts issued for 10 regions; Here's when relief arrives
The heatwave continues and is expected to last until midweek, with forecast maximum temperatures in most areas ranging between 36 and 39 degrees Celsius, the State Hydrometeorological Service of Serbia (RHMZ) said.
Under a red meteorological alert are Banat, Bačka, Srem, Belgrade, Western and Southwestern Serbia, Šumadija, Pomoravlje, Eastern and Southeastern Serbia, while the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija is under an orange alert.
According to data from the Republic Hydrometeorological Service of Serbia (RHMZ), the highest temperature recorded by 7 a.m. was in Belgrade at 27°C, followed by Kikinda with 26°C, and Palić and Sremska Mitrovica with 25°C, while the lowest temperature was recorded in Sjenica at 12°C.
Relief expected on July 1–2
On Wednesday, July 1, a slight drop in temperature is expected, but the weather will remain very warm, while from Thursday, July 2, most places are expected to see daily maximum temperatures below 30°C.
It is also stated that the heatwave in Belgrade today and tomorrow will bring extremely high daytime temperatures of around 39°C.
The heatwave in the coming days may increase the risk of wildfires, with the highest danger in regions with the greatest soil moisture deficit due to a prolonged lack of rainfall.
Water levels on the Danube near Bezdan and downstream from Novi Sad, on the Sava near Belgrade, and on the Tisa near Titel are expected to remain around or slightly below low navigational levels in the coming days.
