Vučić: I expect important news in a few days; 68th day of sanctions, citizens have felt no impact
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said he expects significant news about NIS in the coming days and does not think it will be necessary to wait until January 15.
"Today marks the 68th day since not a single drop has flowed after the Croatians cut off the oil supply, and yet no one has felt a crisis," Vučić emphasized, answering journalists’ questions at the Serbia Palace following a reception for children from Vukovar.
He added that the state has demonstrated its ability "to ease the burden on citizens" and that it does not shift blame onto others.
"I am proud of how the state of Serbia has handled this situation. I expect important news in the next few days. I don’t think we will have to wait until January 15. By Monday or Tuesday, I believe we will have new updates, hopefully good news for the people of Serbia," he added.
It should be recalled that Vučić stated that if the Russians do not resolve matters by January 15, Serbia will take the matter into its own hands.
"We will resolve it by January 15; we have 35 days left. The problem is that this falls right before the New Year and the holidays. If the Russians do not settle things by January 15, we will take the matter into our own hands," he said.
"I hope they understand that Serbia cannot function without NIS, that we want to live normally, and that we will not live under sanctions. In addition to the 100 days we have set, we have had announcements of sanctions for 8–9 months. We have carried out every action the Russians proposed; we signed everything. We have done everything they asked of us, and we have acted more than correctly. I hope everything will be fine, and that their discussions with some Arab companies are important. We have prepared for everything, including paying a much higher price if it comes to that; we have set aside funds for this as well," Vučić said.
