EU, Hungarian, Belarus, Croatian leaders congratulate Vucic

"This vote of confidence shows that the people of Serbia fully endorse the European path you have chosen and which will lead to EU membership," they wrote in a message of congratulations.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban also sent a message to Vucic in the wake of the elections.

"I congratulate you on a convincing victory in the presidential elections in Serbia. I am convinced that yesterday's excellent result is a clear recognition of what you have achieved as Prime Minister. Under your leadership Serbia has become a country of decisive importance to regional stability, has made important steps towards membership in the European Union, to which our country is continuously providing political and expert support," Orban said, adding:

"The Hungarian-Serbian bilateral political and economic cooperation in recent years have seen a continuous development and together we were able to achieve significant results. We sincerely hope that our strategic relations continue to develop at the same pace."

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko was among those who wrote to Vucic on the occasion of his victory.

“Please receive my warmest and most sincere congratulations regarding your election as new president of the Republic of Serbia. This victory is a proof that the Serbian people paid tribute to your achievements during your tenure as prime minister and is a hope for new accomplishments, further growth and the prosperity of the country," said Lukashenko.

"We believe that the expansion of relations with Serbia is an important course of the foreign policy of Belarus and we are looking to the future with optimism. Your recent visit to Minsk and the agreements made on that occasion will contribute to the activization and efficiency of bilateral relations," the Belarus president said.

"I am sure that at the position of the head of the state you will continue to support progressive development of cooperation between our two countries.
I sincerely wish you success in the performance of the successful mission you have been entrusted and I wish prosperity and peace to the brotherly Serbian people," the message said.

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic also congratulated Vucic with the following message:

"It is my pleasure to congratulate you, in my own name and on behalf of the Croatian government, on the victory in the elections for the President of the Republic of Serbia. I am convinced that the development of good neighbourly relations and promoting European values is in the interest of our two countries."

Among those who congratulated Vucic were also Russian and Turkish presidents Vladimir Putin and Recep Erdogan.
