Prominent linguist Ljubiša Rajić dies

Professor of Scandinavian Studies at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade Ljubisa Rajić passed away on Monday at the age of 65, it has been announced.

Professor of Scandinavian Studies at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade Ljubisa Rajic passed away on Monday at the age of 65, it has been announced. Rajic was one of the founders of the Department of Scandinavian Studies at the University of Belgrade in 1988. Prominent linguist Ljubisa Rajic dies In 2004, this department was declared by the Swedish Institute as the best in a competition of about 250 institutions holding classes of Swedish language, literature and culture. Rajic was the foreign member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, recipient of the highest recognitions of Finland, Sweden and Norway for the spreading of their respective cultures abroad, and a lecturer at the Belgrade Open School and the Women's Studies Center. Professor Rajic was a very active member of the Serbian civil society and a prominent fighter against the regime of former President of Serbia Slobodan Milosevic during the 1990s, and advocate of democratic changes.
