"Serbia wants economic system in line with EU standards"

When a new government is formed after the elections, its priority will be job creation, the president's press service quoted Nikolić as saying during a meeting with Venizelos who is visiting Serbia in his capacity as President of the Council of Ministers of the EU.

President Nikolić said that Serbia wants to establish an economic system in keeping with the EU standards, and push through reforms in full swing so as to ensure a better living standard and solve numerous problems, including a high unemployment rate, primarily youth unemployment, as one of the most pressing problems.

The Greek foreign minister voiced pleasure at the fact that Serbia had opened EU entry talks, and offered Greece's support and assistance in going through negotiating chapters. He noted that Serbia's EU prospects are equally important for the entire region, as they are for Serbia.

Venizelos expressed expectation that President Nikolić will assist Greece in resolving the dispute with the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, given that the president himself contributed much to stability and friendly relations between Serbia and all countries in the region.

Venizelos conveyed Greek President Karolos Papoulias's regards to Nikolić.
