BELGRADE An inspection of the grain owned by the state directorate for commodity reserves completed on Thursday. It showed that 17 out of the 77 examined silos are empty or have large quantities of wheat and corn missing, with the damages estimated at EUR 20 million. 78,000 tons of grain missing, damage EUR 20 million A working group formed to examine the state of wheat and corn reserves stored in facilities authorized by the commodity reserves directorate found that around 46,000 tons of wheat and 32,000 tons of corn are missing from 17 silos. Inappropriate storage conditions were found at another two silos, the office of Trade Minister Rasim Ljajic said in a release. The working group will submit an inspection report to the government next week, proposing measures which need to be taken and requesting that the total quantity of grain reserves no longer be designated a state secret, so that the Interior Ministry, the Prosecutor's Office and the Tax Administration could be informed about the discovered irregularities and the damages caused, reads the release. The Ministry of Agriculture said all grain was accounted for in 32 silos. In 26 silos, additional checks are needed because turnover during the period of the inspection made it impossible to form a final conclusion on the quantity and quality of the goods. The working group comprised representatives of the ministries of trade and agriculture, and the state directorate for commodity reserves. (sxc.hu, stock) Tanjug
