Government’s fate hangs in the balance

The Prime Minister’s party, the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) claims Koštunica has the answer for the situation.

In less than a week it will be clear whether the government will continue its work or if it will fall, forcing early elections.

The DSS say they are not anxiously awaiting October 1. “I don’t think the government will fall, since the PM has many times demonstrated deftness handling the cabinet and I think he will find a solution this time as well, as there are far more urgent issues than that of the new elections”, Economy Minister Predrag Bubalo was quoted as saying.

Deputy PM and G17 Plus official Ivana Dulić-Marković, however, claims her party will not go back on its promise to leave the government and the parliament, unless the EU talks continue.

However, Finance Minister and G17 Plus leader said he was optimistic about the renewal of EU Stabilization and Association talks.

“EU talks have not been cancelled but merely postponed for October 10. I can tell you I think Serbia will become a EU membership candidate next year”, Dinkić was reported as saying.
