BELGRADE -- The SPC's Synod has taken over all Patriarch Pavle’s duties owing to, according to the SPC site, his inability to carry out his functions following a long illness.

It is stated that the decision has been taken in the Patriarchal Palace in Belgrade, under the presidency of Bishop Amfilohije on the basis of Article 62 of the Serbian Orthodox Church's (SPC) Constitution.

“On the basis of this article, the presidency of the Synod will be assumed by the Synod’s oldest bishop,” reads the statement.

Patriarch Pavle, 94, was admitted to the Military-Medical Academy for treatment in mid-November.
