Marković rejects smuggling charges

“That is ridiculous, I swear it is. It’s like they said, ‘Mira took a trip to Saturn last weekend, how was it’. And now, you ask me to tell it all. Well I can’t tell you since I was never there, I did not smuggle cigarettes. It is not true, and that’s that,” Marković told the radio station.

Asked whether she planned to travel to Serbia any time soon, she said, “How could I, when they’re waiting for me with that smuggling business?”

Marković also said she would not respond to a court summons, and found the accusations leveled at her “shameful and dishonest.”

She would neither confirm not deny that her present whereabouts were in Russia.

Earlier Monday, Special Organized Crime Prosecutor Slobodan Radovanović confirmed reports that the prosecution had begun an investigation into Marković and her son Marko Milošević, and added an international warrant was out for their arrest.

Though Radovanović did not want to make any guesses as to where they might be currently residing, he said that the warrant called for their extradition to Serbia as soon as they were located.

Radovanović said that the next step would include the freezing of their assets on the territory of Serbia and other countries.
