Macedonian Premier Nikola Gruevski says UN envoy Matthew Nimetz's latest proposal in the name dispute is unacceptable. Macedonia and Greece are involved in almost two decades of disagreement over the former Yugoslav republic's constitutional name. Macedonia rejects mediator proposal "One of the ideas presented by Nimetz is to have one name for all foreign use. That is unacceptable for us and there we stopped. We agreed in some matters, but this is something we could not accept, and said there is no sense in continuing the negotiations," the prime minister explained yesterday. But, Gruevski still added that the talks would continue, since "some ideas are acceptable, while some our not". Nimetz, a U.S. diplomat trying to broker a deal in the name impasse, earlier this week took his proposal to the authorities in Skopje and Athens, while unofficial diplomatic sources said his ideas included renaming the Republic of Macedonia into the Upper Republic of Macedonia or the Northern Republic of Macedonia. Meantime in Skopje, an ethnic Albanian party that is a part of the ruling Macedonian coalition, spoke about deadlines for the name dispute to be solved, and Skopje to recognize Kosovo Albanians' unilateral declaration of independence. DUI leader Ali Ahmeti said that Macedonia and Greece should reach a solution "by the end of September", while Kosovo's recognition is "a matter of days, not months".
