China's ambassador in Belgrade has presented Serbian PM and president-elect Aleksandar Vucic with a message from Chinese President Xi Jinping.

"Serbia is China's great friend and important partner"

"Serbia is a great friend and an important partner of China. At present, relations between China and Serbia are developing strongly and have a great future. I attach great attention to Sino-Serbian relations and highly appreciate your important contribution to the advancement of friendly cooperation between the two countries," Xi said in his message, and continued:

"I am willing to make efforts with you for the constant improvement of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Serbia to a higher level in order to increase the welfare of the two peoples."

"I expect to meet you in May this year in Beijing, during the Belt and Road Forum," the Chinese president said.

Vucic "accepted the invitation with deep gratitude, noting that this will be an opportunity to agree new projects with Chinese friends and strengthen economic and other cooperation, to which the establishment of direct flights between Serbia and China would contribute the most," said a statement issued after his meeting in Belgrade with Li.

Vucic also said that Serbian citizens "increasingly understand the importance of cooperation with China and support the close and friendly relations between the two countries, whose development will be one of his priorities as president of the country."
