Representatives of the opposition Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, the Initiative for Kosovo, and Self-Determination also said they were starting a new series of protests and would "remain in the streets until the government of Kosovo has been brought down."

On Tuesday, several hundred demonstrators, opposition supporters, gathered in front of the buildings housing the assembly and the government, demanding the government's resignation and early elections.

They pitched their tents and said they planned to be present there "in order to prevent PDK leader Hashim Thaci's election as Kosovo president."

The opposition plans to stay there until March 7, the deadline for a new present to be elected, after which - if one has not been elected - early elections would have to be called.

Special units of the Kosovo police guarded the buildings today.

Albanian language media in Pristina are reporting that earlier in the day opposition lawmakers Albin Kurti, Faton Topalli and Albulena Haxhiu from Self-Determination, and Donika Kadaj-Bujupi from the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo were brought up before a judge.

According to the same sources, they are accused of committing the offense of the use of firearms.

Since October 2015 the opposition has been boycotting and violently disrupting the work of the assembly by using tear gas inside the premises. Their goal is to prevent the implementation of agreements reached during the EU-sponsored Belgrade-Pristina talks in Brussels, in particular the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities - and to force early elections.

Frasher Krasniqi, a spokesman for Self-Determination, and Glauk Konjufca, a member of the assembly from this party, have also been arrested for causing damage to EU mission in Kosovo, EULEX, vehicles during an earlier incident.

As reported by some media, an arrest warrant has been issued for Self-Determination leader Visar Imeri, who was on Tuesday in downtown Pristina along with other protesters.
