Vitaly Churkin says UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will submit report on UNMIK at the end of the month. The Russian ambassador to the UN was speaking in New York on Tuesday. Churkin: Ban reports on Kosovo in late March According to the outline program for the work of the Security Council, Ban is due to report to the UN Security Council on March 31. The Security Council is monitoring the situation in Kosovo very carefully, Churkin said in response to a question, Beta news agency reported. He reminded that Ban had said last month that Resolution 1244 remained in force and that no member of the Security Council had objected to this, and that therefore any other activity seeking to disband UNMIK and replace it with another organization was "illegal." Asked to comment on the possible partitioning of Kosovo, Churkin said what was happening in Kosovo at present was "what Russia had warned of". The unilateral proclamation of independence can lead to a de facto partitioning of Kosovo, Churkin said, adding that the situation in the field was a direct consequence of the unilateral independence proclamation. Presenting Russia's chairing over the Security Council in March, Churkin said it would also discuss Afghanistan, the Middle East and the situation in Africa, especially Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia and Eritrea.
