Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic (DS) met with ambassadors from the EU member states in Belgrade today. "Serbia is ready to as soon as possible sign the Stabilization and Association Agreement with the European Union, and then immediately to begin a dialogue on the complete liberalization of the visa regime," Djelic told the diplomats during a regular meeting. Djelic stressed it is Serbia's priority to become an EU candidate by the end of 2008, and to begin negotiations on full membership in the spring of 2009. "The signature on the SAA will bring Serbia economic progress and improvement in the living standard of all citizens," a statement issued after the meeting quoted the deputy premier. Djelic also welcomed the establishment of an EC working group that will provide Serbia with assistance in the process of its EU integration, the statement said.
