The EU will have to choose between signing the SAA with Serbia or sending a mission to Kosovo, says Vojislav Kostunica. “On January 28, the EU will have to choose between signing the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) with Serbia, or, under U.S. pressure, taking the decision to send its civil mission to Kosovo to implement the rejected Ahtisaari plan for Kosovo's supervised independence, and thus strip Serbia of part of her territory,” the prime minister told Tanjug today. Prime minister delivers ultimatum to EU “If the EU was to illegally decide to send its mission, that would mean nullifying and invalidating the SAA with Serbia,” Kostunica said. “We have got to the point where the EU has to make a choice whether it wants an entire and internationally-recognized Serbia as its partner, or if it wants to create a quasi-state entity on its territory,” he stressed. The prime minister pointed out that if the EU was to take a position based on European values and principles, it would decide to sign the SAA with Serbia, recognizing and respecting its territorial integrity. "If it was to make a choice under the growing pressure of the United States, it would be taking an illegal and thereby anti-European decision to send its mission." "This means that on January 28, the EU will choose whether to participate in the break-up of Serbia or whether it will sign the SAA with Serbia as its partner. The two are mutually exclusive, so that the EU, on January 28, cannot at the same time break up Serbia and sign the SAA with Serbia," Kostunica said in conclusion. The prime minister reiterated that Serbia had clearly said it wanted to sign the agreement, and that it was now up to the EU to clearly state its decision: whether its partner was to be Serbia as a whole, or whether it was going to send its mission and thus create a puppet entity, under the Ahtisaari plan.
