BELGRADE Thousands of people gathered in Belgrade for a series of concerts and a fireworks display, organized by the city to mark the beginning of the new year. Revelers gathered at Belgrade's Republic Square to hear music ranging from rock to classical, while vendors profited the most from selling cooked wine and brandy in a "mild" night for this time of year - with temperatures of only several degrees below zero centigrade, and no precipitation. New Year welcomed across Serbia The outdoors festivities in Belgrade were marred by an incident in which several several people suffered stab wounds. Meanwhile in Skadarlija, Belgrade's Bohemian quarter, restaurants and taverns were packed, while reporters spotted public figures and foreign ambassadors among those who chose to ring in the new year there. Elsewhere in Serbia, people mostly spend the evening either in restaurants and hotels or with their friends and families at home. In Kosovska Mitrovica, which was this year not decorated for the festivities, gunshots were heard at one point along with firecrackers and other new year pyrotechnics. And while most stayed home, several thousands people gathered in central squares in Kragujevac, Krusevac, Bor, Novi Sad, Subotica, and other towns, for new year concerts and fireworks. No major incidents have been reported. A scene from Novi Sad (Tanjug) Tanjug
