New Year welcomed across Serbia

BELGRADE Thousands of people gathered in Belgrade for a series of concerts and a fireworks display, organized by the city to mark the beginning of the new year. Revelers gathered at Belgrade's Republic Square to hear music ranging from rock to classical, while vendors profited the most from selling cooked wine and brandy in a "mild" night for this time of year - with temperatures of only several degrees below zero centigrade, and no precipitation.
