BELGRADE Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic posthumously awarded the Milos Obilic medal to VS Major Goran Savic for courage and an act of great personal heroism. The president issued a decree on decoration of Major Savic on September 28, the president's cabinet released. President honors pilot who died in crash Savic, 39, is a Serbian hero, who risked his life to protect thelives of children, the statement reads. Major Savic left behind two minor children, but with his death he saved lives of many other people, the statement says. Major Savic lost his life on September 26, when a training military aircraft Lasta V-54 crashed due to failure of control board in the yard of Viteks paint factory in Nova Pazova. Due to heroic act of Major Savic, who deliberately ejected too late searching for a safe place for landing, none of the residents were injured, including children in nearby school and kindergarten, the statement reads.
