The NBS has stated that it has submitted a proposal to the IMF for paying back its 468 million dollar debt ahead of schedule.

Early payment of debt to IMF

The second half of the debt will be paid off in two installments, at the end of this year and in March 2007, the NBS stated.

The first half of the debt was paid off earlier this year, also in two installments, one in July and one in September.

NBS Governor Radovan Jelašić stated, in the proposal which was sent to the IMF, that the timely payment of the debt would have positive effects on the decrease of Serbia’s foreign debt and added that the NBS is ready to continue cooperation in the post-program monitoring for implementing successful macro-economic politics.
