CAIRO Interim President of Egypt Adli Mansour has decided that parliamentary elections in the country would be held by 2014. After that, presidential elections will be scheduled. Egypt to hold parliamentary elections "by 2014" Egypt will have five months to amend the draft constitution brought by Islamists, suspended after the overthrowing of President Mohamed Morsi. The amended draft will have to be adopted in a referendum, after which parliamentary elections will be held, according to the text of a decree published Monday on the website of the newspaper Al-Ahram. The Egyptian military, which appointed Mansour after removing Morsi from power in the wake of mass protests, has vowed that the country will quickly return to a civilian rule, reports AFP. The wording of the decree, however, provides the interim authorities with the possibility to extend the time for parliamentary elections, expert on constitutional matters Zaid al-Ali believes. This could add another two months for the candidate application process and another month for elections to the timeframe. All this came after at least 51 people, mostly supporters of Morsi, died in a clash in front of the Republican Guard headquarters in Cairo, when 435 others were wounded. (Beta/AP, file) Beta Tanjug
