ISTANBUL President of the UN General Assembly Vuk Jeremic stated in Istanbul on Friday that the UN is "the only global organization everyone trusts". The former Serbian foreign minister added that the United Nations was "the only instrument available to the international community in solving a number of critical issues." Jeremic attends Mediation Conference in Istanbul Jeremic participated as an honorary guest in the Conference on Mediation which focused on the situation in four crisis areas, including the Near East, Somalia, Afghanistan and Syria. “This was a successful conference which offered an insight into four major crisis spots in the world. Obviously, some of the crisis sports need mediation and the UN is the only organization everyone trusts and it represents the common denominator for all confronted sides,” the UNGA president told Tanjug. Jeremic said that he would continue supporting the initiative launched by Turkey and Finland. Quoting the Quran and the Bible which also speak of the role of the mediator, Jeremic concluded that the mediator needs to be an equal friend of each of the involved sides and act impartially for the sake of a just solution. On the margins of the meeting, Jeremic had bilateral meeting with Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and his Finnish counterpart Erkki Tuomioja. The Conference on Mediation is a part of the initiative launched by Finland and Turkey in September 2010, and it later became the official initiative of the UN.
