Kuwait's parliament passed an amendment to the penal code which introduces death penalty for blasphemy and insulting of Prophet Muhammad and his wives. The stricter laws were voted for by 46 members of parliament, reports AFP. Shi'ite Muslim MPs voted against, as they requested the stricter laws to also apply to persons who would offend the twelve imams, but the Kuwaiti parliament is dominated by Sunni Muslims rejected their proposal. Kuwaiti Shi'ite Hamad Al-Naki was arrested last month on charges of insulting Prophet Muhammad and A'isha, one of his wives, and he is now in custody awaiting trial.
