Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has stated that he will defeat rebels and the Western forces. Libya has been under coalition air strikes for four days now, following a UN Security Council resolution. Gaddafi promises victory In a short address on Libyan TV, Gaddafi said that he would fight and in the end defeat rebels and the international forces. In a three-minute speech the Libyan leader pointed out that there was a "new crusader battle launched by crusader countries on Islam". He also added that “all Islamic armies must take part in the battle, all free [people] must take part in the battle... We will be victorious in the end." "In the short term, we will beat them. In the long term, we will beat them," Gaddafi stressed. “The most powerful air defense is the people. Here are the people. Gaddafi is among them. That’s air defense,” the Libyan leader said. In the meantime, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has told ABC News that Gaddafi allies have been reaching out to other nations worldwide, in Africa, Middle East, Europe, and North America in order to explore options for the future. Fierce fighting continues in Misrata, the last rebel-held city in western Libya, which has been under siege for weeks, and the situation is becoming increasingly desperate with supplies of food, water and medicine running low. There is a similar situation is the city of Adjabiya, where neither side appears capable of holding their ground. Muammar Gaddafi (Beta/AP)
