U.S. Republican Party VP nominee Sarah Palin has accused Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama of ties with terrorists. The Alaska governor, picked by John McCain as his vice-presidential candidate, quoted a New York Times article that said Obama had links with University of Illinois professor William Ayers. Palin: Obama associated with terrorists Ayers is a former member of the Weathermen, an underground group that in the 1960s led a violent anti-Vietnam war campaign, which included bombings on the Pentagon. Reports say that Ayers supported Obama's first run for public office in 1995. Obama spokesman Hari Sevugan in response accused the rival camp of conducting a dirty campaign. "What's clear is that John McCain and Sarah Palin would rather spend their time tearing down Barack Obama than laying out a plan to build up our economy," he was quoted as saying.
