45th 'Joy of Europe' kicks off
The children's carnival procession, with participants from 18 European countries marked the opening of the 45th 'Joy of Europe',children's festival in Belgrade.

45th 'Joy of Europe' kicks off
This year's 'Joy of Europe' will be a four-day event and the participants, children from Albania, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Latvia, Macedonia, Germany, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, France, Montenegro and the Czech Republic, will be guests of their peers from Serbia.The children will present the countries they are coming from through music, dance, painting and other arts.
The event will close with a gala concert at the Belgrade Sava Center on Sunday, October 5th.
This year's gathering is dedicated to the anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted by the UN GA 25 years ago with Serbia among the signatories. The motto of the event - Children will save the planet with their love - is a line from a book by Serbian children's poet Ljubivoje Rsumovic “Primer of Children's Rights“.
'Joy of Europe', established in 1969 on the occasion of the International Children's Day, is the largest international event celebrating children's creativity.
According to Donka Spicek, one of the organizers and an active participant of the event, the children from across Europe usually stay with local families, and each child has its own host in Belgrade.
"If it were not for that, 'Joy of Europe' would not have survived for 45 years,” she said, adding that the society needs to provide stronger support.
This year, the 'Joy of Europe' organizing committee is chaired by the Serbian president's wife Dragica Nikolic, who will meet with the children at the Palace of Serbia.
