The 195th anniversary of the Second Serbian Uprising has been marked today with ceremonies at the monument to Prince Milos Obrenovic in Takovo, central Serbia. The uprisings were organized as the country struggled to free itseld of several centuries of the Ottoman Turk occupation. 195th anniversary of 2nd Serbian Uprising Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said it was a duty to point out to a need for historical reconciliation of former enemies, as well as for respect toward all the victims of the Serbo-Ottoman conflicts. “Those military clashes represent a historical warning which requires essential thinking. Maybe Takovo is exactly the place from which it should be appealed for peace again, and from where a message of reconciliation should be sent again, and of cooperation and a joint building of the future,“ Dacic was quoted by saying in reports from historic Takovo today. “Takovo isn't the place which is supposed to turn us toward the past, but to the future where life will rule instead of suffering, birth instead of death, creativity instead of fighting and bloodshed,“ said he. Dacic also stated the “Serbian present was different today, almost two centuries after the uprising in Takovo”. “Unburdened by the difficult past, we look with optimism into the future which will undoubtedly bring Serbia accession to the European family of nations, which in the previous centuries represented one of the basic tendencies of the Serbian political and intellectual elite,“ the was quoted as saying. The ceremonies today were also attended by Parliament Speaker Slavica Djukic-Dejanovic, Ministers Milutin Mrkonjic, Zarko Obradovic and Verica Kalanovic and representatives of the diplomatic corps.
