The Association of Independence Electronic Media (ANEM) has asked for help in getting pirate radio and television stations closed. Interior Minister Ivica Dacic met with ANEM officials to discuss the problem media companies in Serbia are facing with the large increase in pirate stations. Media association asks ministry for help Dacic said that the ministry is ready to help in finding a solution for the control and closing of these stations. He said that a legal solution must be found for categorizing these crimes and that the legislative branch must be included in the process, along with RATEL and ANEM officials. There are 476 legal broadcasters in Serbia and 186 registered pirate radio and television stations. Legal broadcasters pay contributions for broadcasting programs and for copyrights, but are forced to battle for listenership with the pirate stations that do not pay anything. ANEM said that the state is not doing a good job at ridding the market of the pirate stations.
