Activists of several NGOs protested in front of the presidency calling for July 11 to be proclaimed an official day for remembering the Srebrenica genocide. A letter addressed to President Boris Tadic was read at the protest, which calls for him to “accept and mark the day of July 11 as a memorial day for the genocide in Srebrenica and paying respect to the victims.” NGO calls for Srebrenica memorial day The Humanitarian Law Center, Women in Black, Helsinki Human Rights Committee in Serbia, the Center for Improving Legal Studies, the Committee of Attorneys for Human Rights, and the Youth Initiative for Human Rights signed the letter. Sandra Orlovic of the Human Law Center said that Tadic’s statement over the weekend that a Srebrenica resolution should be adopted is encouraging. “We have received guarantees, but not from the parliamentary majority, but from parties of the parliament such as the Liberal Democratic Party (that they would support it),” she said.
