The snow that has been falling throughout Serbia all night and morning has brought Belgrade traffic to a standstill. Once again, city services in charge of road maintenance in winter months seem to have been surprised by snowfall in late December, leaving most of the streets in the capital covered in snow, while the movement of vehicles over the Sava and Danube bridges has been paralyzed for the second time this season. Belgraders say they have not witnessed worse traffic in years, in a city notorious for its congested streets. Meanwhile, the city representatives say that all streets will be cleared by 8 p.m. this evening, but also blame the collapse on the "number of vehicles" in the streets. The snow is also falling throughout the rest of the country. As is customary under such circumstances, drivers are recommended to stay home unless they must make the journey, in which case they should not exceed the speeds of 60 kmph on the highways and 40 kmph on other roads, with obligatory winter equipment for their vehicles. Fog is additionally complicating conditions on access roads to winter resorts in Zlatibor and Kopaonik mountains, so police and road maintenance companies are advising careful and responsible driving.
