The first successful liver transplant at Belgrade Children’s Clinic has been carried out. A ten-year old child underwent surgery, having been donated his father’s liver. First successful liver transplant in Serbia The operation lasted 12.5 hours, and was performed by a team of 20 doctors, led by Dr. Bozina Radevic. Doctors from the Dedinje Institute for Cardio-Vascular Diseases and the Serbian Clinical Center also contributed to the operation’s successful outcome. The Health Ministry has reiterated that the conditions for organ transplants are available within the country’s health institutions, but that greater public awareness of organ donation was needed. The aim is to advance the organ transplant program to the point where the organs of deceased persons are used to save patients’ lives.
