Defense continues summary in Đinđić murder trial

The second-accused Zvezdan Jovanović’s defense lawyer Nenad Vuksanović delivered his closing argument Wednesday, when he blamed “foreign powers murdering prime minister Zoran Đinđić.”

“The same people from abroad that brought him to power, and with whom he later engaged in conflict, are the same people that now rule Serbia. They should be held responsible for having murdered Đinđić,” Vuksanović argued.

He drew a parallel between Đinđić and former FRY president Slobodan Milošević by saying that “the same thing happened to Milošević.”

“The moment Milošević turned his back on America he was destined to end up in The Hague,” he said.

In his address to the Trial Chamber, Vuksanović said that Zvezdan Jovanović could be convicted only "if there was proof that could place the rifle that killed Đinđić into his hands.”

He also said that “the victim’s contribution to the crime should be looked into”, since, according to him “the October 2000 revolution was backed by foreign states that continued to support Đinđić and the Democratic Party (DS).”

“Our recent history has taught us that who ever confronted the powers, paid with his life,” he said stressing once again that Milošević had to face the Hague “when he snubbed the U.S. orders he previously obeyed.”

“We all wish to get to the bottom of this case and learn the truth. Zvezdan Jovanović and Milorad Ulemek may as well be hanged if there were indeed proofs that they murdered the late prime minister,” he said.
