Tomić admits to meeting alleged Đinđić killers

When the judge asked Tomić, a close Koštunica aide at the time of the assassination, whether he was aware of Spasojević’s activities at the time, he replied he was aware that Spasojević "was a criminal and a drug dealer.

Tomić denied having met with the first accused in the Đinđić assassination trial Milorad Ulemek Legija in November 2001 at the time MUP's Special Operations Unit (JSO), also known as the Red Berets, staged protests. Ulemek was the unit's former commander.

Tomić said he was on an official visit to Moscow along with former Yugoslav Army Chief of Staff Nebojša Pavković at the time of the Red Berets’ protests.

Tomić also said in his testimony he had met twice with Ulemek in summer 2002, when, according to Tomić, Ulemek showed interest in obtaining the Federal Army’s assisstance in the training of the JSO.

Tomić also testified that Dušan Spasojević attended one of the meetings Tomić had with Ulemek in his office. Former state intelligence (DB) chief Rade Bulatović, and former prime minister of the Republic of Srpska Krajina Borislav Mikelić were also present, according to Tomić.

Tomić said that Spasojević came to the meeting so as to “meet the general that arrested an American spy”, referring to the March 2002 arrests of former deputy prime minister Momčilo Perišić and U.S. diplomat John Neighbor.

Tomić said he got a high end mobile phone as a gift from Dušan Spasojević. “Spasojević said that the device could facilitate the catching of spies,” Tomić told the court.

Presiding Judge Nada Mesarović announced she would later today reveal whether prime minister Vojislav Koštunica, interior minister Dragan Jočić and former State intelligence Chief Rade Bulatović would be summoned as witnesses in Zoran Đinđić murder trial.
