Montenegrin PM talks NATO membership, new highway

In an interview for Radio Crne Gore (Radio Montenegro) he reiterated earlier assurances that Montenegro would "do everything to earn an invitation to join" by September, when the summit is held, but added that the outcome "will not depend only on Montenegro."

Đukanović also announced "a lex specialis," i.e., a special law concerning the highway from Bar to the border with Serbia, which, as he explained, will determine reliable legal prerequisites to carry out the project..

According to Đukanović, the signing of a contract with Chinese partners "can be expected soon." The deal concerns the financing of the construction of the highway. Recently a contract was initialed on the design and construction of the road.

"When we have both contracts, the physical implementation of the highway construction can begin," he was quoted as saying, and adding that this could be expected by the end of February.

Then, as Đukanović said, "the usage of the EUR 809 million will also begin, which are planned for the construction of the first section of the highway from Podgorica to Mateševo."

The Montenegrin prime minister announced that profitable companies, such as wine and fruit producer Plantaže, would be privatized, but noted that "there is no rush" to do that.
